I used to only shoot in black and white...now I don't. that was probably a good call. I am however, partial to any film that is free, or has potentially been in an attic since you bought it for that trip you took to the beach in 1993. In fact that would actually be an awesome film to have.
When it comes to Light, I am like a frat house. respect the natty light.
sometimes a flash is cool. tripods too.
I like to use a fixed 50mm lens, no filters most of the time, and a lens cap that I have lost and found 4 times in 2 states.
I don't name things usually and I self identify as a minimalist but I understand if it seems like indifference or laziness.
I use settings as guidelines and nothing more. like having a very precisely inaccurate throwing arm. the rest is probably wishful thinking/denial.
I used to practice a weird sort of artistic isolation, and it was only about a year and a half ago that I started reading anything that had to do with theory, techniques or even basic instruction manuals/directions. I had an art teacher who said you can't create in a vacuum and I hated him so naturally I doubted that. The minds eye is pretty much all you really need to read anyway.
you know when you shoot with someone else and they just follow you around and don't really see a thing wrong with just shooting over your shoulder (in a sense) that bites. one time a friend of mine said it was weird that I just walked around with my camera and took very few photos. I mean isn't the idea to see and experience? it probably wouldn't be as cool or interesting if you spent the entire time looking for a picture. in fact the photos (would) probably suck anyway.
I was walking in Washington square once and this man was shouting “I’m going to die” laughing hysterically, and then asking “did anyone hear me?” So I laughed and said I hear you. He gave me a hug and walked away without saying a word.
I never use timers for the chemicals when im printing. I just go with it and figure, you cant really over fix. right?
i really don't care if i take pictures or if i don't. its not really about that.
